Free Pattern :: Easy Ribbed Hot Pad

Hello Friends...For 2 years now at Christmas, I've made my mother-in-law pot holders.  This year I made a simple ribbed version.  I've posted pictures and free pattern below.  I hope the New Year brings everyone happiness, health and prosperity.

Required Materials:
  • 1 skein of Bernat Handicrafter multi-colour cotton yarn (for the front side)
  • 1 skein of Bernat Handicrafter cotton yarn solid colour yarn (for the back side)
  • size 5mm crochet hook
  • scissors
  • yarn needle
Required Crochet Stitches:
chain (ch), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc)
Note: All crochet terms are U.S.

Front:
With multi coloured yarn, ch 24
Row 1 - hdc in the back loop of the 3rd ch from your hook , continue with a hdc into each ch across (22 sts); ch 2 and turn.
Repeat above row 10 more times. Fasten off.
Back:
With solid coloured yarn, ch 24
Repeat above instructions for your second side of the potholder, however, do not fasten off.

Finishing:
Place two sides together with the wrong sides facing each other, so that the right sides are on the outside. With the self multi-colour on top (front), trim all loose ends to approx. 3”, so that they may be tucked in between the 2 sides. This makes for less weaving of ends.
Round 1:
Ch 1 with the yarn for the back and begin stitching the pot holder together with a sc in each st. If sides are placed together correctly, you should be working from the top right hand corner of the pot holder. Continue to sc evenly across the top, the corner and each side until the two sides are completely attached together. Join with sl st. to the beginning ch 1.
Round 2:
Repeat round 1, but do 2 sc's into the corners to square them off.
To make hanging loop, ch 7 and flip pot holder over, so that the back side is facing up. Skip one st. in the corner and secure ch 7 with a sc into the next st. Fasten off and weave in end.

So Far in December

Well hello there Friends...It's certainly been a long while!  I always underestimate the busyness of the holiday season.  Here's a quick round up of what I've been working on this month, some holiday related, some not.  Wishing all my readers a safe and Happy Holidays!

This is a men's/unisex cowl that I made for my hubby for his B.D.

Custom order of one of my cowl patterns.

More dishcloths as little gifts for the holidays for family and hostesses...sorry, not the best photo.
